Two one day circular trails: Reedbuck (13 km) and Trout trail (6 km), in mountains with lovely views, ravines, cross rivers, mountain streams, wanders past lots of game to a 10m high waterfall, rock pools, interesting rock formations and trout dams.

Base camp: 24 hikers, with two bedrooms, braai and lapa, kitchen with gas appliances, pots etc. A lounge with a cozy fire-place for those cool Dullstroom winter days.

Kingdom - Witbank

Two day circular trails of 16 km and 8 km. The trail is situated in the upper reaches of the Olifants river and overlooking the Wilge-Olifants river confluence, 1500 ha of pristine indigenous forest. Bermanzi - Machadodorp

Slagthoek - Witbank

Two day circular trails of 12km (God's Window Loop) and 11km (Cycad Loop). Rhenosterpoort Hiking Trail - Nylstroom

Two circular trails in the Waterberg mountains. Two thatched bush camps: one for 12 people, and one for 20 hikers - 100 m from the river with lovely swimming pools.

Route 1: (12 km) Trail follows the river, a waterfall, with a "foefie"-slide and refreshing swimming pools, ravines, mountain slopes through indigenous forests.

Route 2: (8 km) A trail for all the tree and bird lovers, 105 indigenous trees have been identified.

Eagle Cove Hiking Trail - Hartebeespoortdam

Three popular day circular trails in the Magaliesberg mountains - exceptional gorges and ravines. Descend into gorge by steel ladder to cool pools and streams. Game viewing!

One day circular GPS trail of 10 km along the Elands river. Routes take hikers on the plateau and then down to river - lots of rock pools and waterfalls, past an island "Jurasic Park" where dinosaurs await the hiker, 100m from waterfall and more rock pools.

Mateke Hiking Trail - Thabazimbi

Two day circular trails in the Kransberg mountains. The Njala trail (13 km) and the Kudu trail (9 km or 16 km). Both trails follow the Mamba river with its natural rock pools, go into mountains, stunning views, through dense indigenous forest. Overnight at base camp in TREEHOUSES. (10 bed) on the banks of the Mamba river. The two tree houses are joined by a wooden deck. Open boma area with braai facilities. No electricity. Warm water showers and flushing toilets. To reach tree houses from parking are one has to cross a suspension bridge.

In the Vredefort Dome, 25 km from Potchefstroom. Four day circular trails to choose from - 11 km, 9 km, 6 km and 2 km. Trails in the mountains, bush veld, indigenous trees are tagged with national names and numbers, stunning views of meteorite sites, Matabele ruines, mountain streams in rain season, interesting rock formations and geological sites.

Rooikrans - Middelburg

Loskop Dam area at Middelburg. Three day trails to choose from: Witpens Kloof Trail 7,6 km - Job se Kloof Trail 11,4 km and Draadkloof Trail 11,1km. Witpens and Job trails can be combined 15,8 km for experienced hikers. Spectacular views on Loskop dam and valleys, indigenous forest, beautiful kloofs with rock pools and cascades, a shoe string waterfall in summer and the rooi kranses are the main features on trails. Supporting ladders, board walks and hand railings on trails. Base camp accommodates 42 hikers. Three rooms: 12-bed, 14-bed and 6-bed. Ablutions with flush toilets, hot water showers ("donkey"). Three day circular trails of 4 km, 14 km and 23 km in the Ezemvelo Nature Reserve. On the trails you'll experience nature at its best, with large herds of game, over 250 species of bird and numerous indigenous plants. Trails meander through grasslands, rocky outcrops and wetlands. Quagga's Pad - Balfour

This trail is situated past Heidelberg and Balfour, a mere hours drive from Jhb. Two day trails of 13,5 km and 7 km from the base camp. Routes take hikers through Suikerbosrand koppies, small indigenous forests, kloofs, Tswana kraal ruins, historical Anglo Boer War sites. From the highest point in the are hikers have a 360 view. The shorter trail hikers enjoy a lovely walk through an area with 8 species of game, such as gemsbok, eland etc.

Base camp: accommodates 24 hikers. Two separate rooms each with its own fire-place. Hot water showers. Kitchenette with two-plate gas stoves, kettle etc. Braai facilities. Farm dam to swim at camp.

Five Assegais - Machadodorp/Badplaas

Two spectacular new day trails in the Skurweberg mountains - 2.5 hours from Jhb/Pta.

Bobbejaan's Krans Base Camp: 2x charming double storey wooden pagodo's (rock houses), built into the extraordinary canyons, with bunk beds and mattresses, each sleeping 6 - 12 (max of 24 hikers). Each pagodo has a fridge, 2 plate stove, braai facilities and kitchen utensils. It is electrified and equipped with hot showers and loo's with a view. Ladies bathroom!

Hikers will be treated with excellent hiking trails.
Trail one: Five Assegais All Day trail: 13.5 km - Medium to difficult through a variety of eco biomes (Highveld and middele veldt), down into the Bankspruit gorge with crystal rock pools and the second highest waterfall in Mpumalanga (Bride's Leap).
Trail two: Hells Bells Half Day trail: +-8km - Less strenuous but a spectacular and intimate walk, down Hells Kloof, through a magic old forest of yellow wood and huge stink hout and tree ferns. Past smaller waterfalls and panoramic views on Swaziland. A lot of game species to be seen!

Tsakane Big Five - Kruger Park

Tsakane (Happy Place) is based in the privately owned Balule Game Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger National Park and home to Africa's "Big Five" (Lion, Buffalo, Rhino, Elephant and Leopard.)

Tsakane Wilderness Trail Camp

Accommodation: Comprises four dome safari tents accommodating 8 persons and a Trail Ranger fanned out in a semi circle around a camp fire. Each tent is furnished with two camp stretchers and comfortable mattresses with a fitted sheet and pillows, a canvass wardrobe, side table with lamp while two canvass camp chairs and a canvass wash basin are located at the entrance of each tent. Guests are required to bring their own sleeping bags and towels. The camp specialises in providing a unique wilderness experience. Our two Trail Rangers, with some 40 years combined experience, will not only share there knowledge with you, but encourage you to fully participate during the trail.

Amenities: A Large safari tent canopy is used as a dining and relaxation area and overlooks a dry riverbed often frequented by elephant, the toilet enclosure is serviced by a chemical toilet and a outdoor bucket type open-air shower. Guests are required to prepare the bucket by filling water from a donkey boiler.

Catering: All meals are uniquely prepared on an open fire. Early morning coffee, tea and rusks are served followed by brunch, a light lunch and dinner.

Activities include guided day trails, sleep-outs under the African stars, game drives and specialist photographic and birding excursions.

Typical day in the wilderness trail camp: Guests are woken to the aroma of coffee boiling before embarking on a walking trail lasting some four hours. On returning to the Trail Camp brunch is served before guests are transported to the Tsakane Safari Camp where they have the opportunity to take a swim or jacuzzi or socialise around the bar. A light lunch is often served in the bush on the banks of a river. A short walk or game drive is conducted in the late afternoon before guests enjoy a hot or cold shower ahead of dinner around the camp fire until retiring to bed.

Trail Rangers: The trails are led by Mark Robinson or Terry Schulze, each with some twenty years guiding experience in "Big Five" reserves such as Kruger National Park, Sabie Sands, Klaserie and Mashatu in Botswana. Guests shall be required to sign an indemnity agreement on arrival at the camp.

Schoongezicht

Schoongezicht Hiking Trail is situated on a 2000ha game farm 25km from Swartruggens, past Rustenburg, in the North West Province – only 2 hours drive from PTA/JHB. (Bonus: NO gravel road!) Three circular trails to choose from (14 - 17 km), (10 km) and (4 km). The trails meander through indigenous bush, ravines with mountain streams in rainy season, hills and crisscross the Elands river. Lots of game to be seen on the trails such as kudu, blesbok, zebra, rooi hartebeest, impala etc.

The Base Camp consists of a beautifully restored farm house with a big stoep all around, and a cozy rondavel for the "snorkers". In total it accommodates 20 hikers. There are 4 bedrooms in the house, a big dining area and kitchen. One bathroom inside house and rondawel and a neat ablution block outside with additional showers and toilets. Outside is a nice boma area with braai facilities. There is a huge clean cement dam for swimming in the camp specially in hot summer months and a big farm dam with deck walking distance away.

Berg en Stroom

This tranquil Bush Camp and hiking trail is situated high on the plateau with stunning views on one of the highest and most impressive rock peaks of the KRANSBERG Mountains, 27km from Thabazimbi, 2 and half hours drive from JHB and PTA. This escarpment also forms the southern border of the Marakele National Park and is the home of the largest colonies of Cape Vultures in Africa. The camp looks out on a perennial stream flowing through a sparkling natural rock pool between huge rocks surrounded by beautiful and well kept grass lawns.

Accommodation:
This exclusive camp accommodates small groups 4 - 8 only, in a separate Log cabin on stilts – open plan: sleeps 4 with own en suite bathroom. Stone build, thatched double storey chalet: 2 separate bedrooms upstairs. A communal, fully equipped modern kitchen with all basic appliances, social-dining area with tables and chairs. Bathroom. Patio and braai facilities. Own extra tent or caravan welcome – maximum group: 12 for the camp.

Eye View - Rustenburg

Situated on a private Bushveld Game farm just outside Rustenburg on the Koster road, 135 km from PTA and JHB. 2x Beautiful, well planned day circular trails (Day one: 12km and Day 2: 5km) with stunning panoramic views from there the name "Eye View", kranses, ravines, lush indigenous vegetation, abundant birdlife, a lot of game to be seen. On a clear day hikers will be able to see the Olifantsnek dam and Hartebeespoortdam.

The "Dapper Stapper" Base camp has 4x 2-3 Bed wooden huts under big shady trees, sleeps 10-12 hikers. Communal bush kitchen with all basic facilities, cozy braai lapa and boma. Ablutions block with separate ladies and gents showers, flush toilets and hand basins. Minimum of 4 hikers per booking.

Mahala Manzi

Mahala Manzi Hiking Trail is situated on a 2000 he Game Farm, 60 km from Stoffberg, on the R555 Roossenekal / Steelpoort Road. 2 and half – 3 hours drive from JHB and PTA. S24 59.684 E29 57.156 More than 20 game species and over 200 bird species to be seen.

Accommodation:
A stone build and thatched roof "chalet" sleeps 20 hikers – 2 x separate rooms with bunk beds and mattresses. Camp is 400m from the Klip River with rock pools to swim in. Kitchen Lapa with gas freezer, stove, cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery provided. No electricity. Paraffin lamps provided. Hot water showers and flush toilets. A Big boma with braai facilities. (Wood provided, extra wood for sale or bring own).

NB: TAKE NOTE:
- The base camp can only be reached with 4x4 vehicles or high clearance
- 2 x 4 diff lock bakkies.
- Transport can be arranged from reception parking area to base camp (only luggage and back packs R100 a trip)
- There is an interesting, moderate 4.5 km walk from reception parking area to hikers camp (approximate 3 hours walk).
- Hikers need to arrive early enough the finish this walk in day light.

OPTION 1: Arrive and leave vehicles at reception parking area. (24h security, drinking water and toilets at reception) Hikers need to walk 4,5km in to the "Over night Camp".
OPTION 2: Drive 13km in to the Base camp with own 4x4 vehicle. (45 min). No back packs needed now. Three more stunning circular trails from this camp: 5 km, 6 km and a 12 km "Summit" trail.

MAIN FEATURES: Mountainous, panoramic views, a big variety of terrain, indigenous bush and interesting rock formations. Lots of rock pools for swimming. The trails are average to difficult. Excellent bird watching, game viewing and unforgettable star gazing at night. Lots of mountainous dirt roads – bring own bikes.

Imagine only hearing wild life sounds, the crackling of your own night fire and the calming sound of the running river close by after a good days hike!

Welgedacht Reserve

Welgedacht Private Game Reserve - Welcome to a world where the only traffic is a herd of impala, zebra, eland or kudu. Where the sounds of freeways and burglar alarms are replaced by guinea fowl, woodland kingfishers and fish eagles and where giraffe stand guard at the camp!

Welgedacht Game Reserve is a 1 200 hectare private reserve on the southern boundary of the 18 000 hectare Dinokeng Big Five Game Reserve where lion, elephant and buffalo are roaming freely already. It is just an hour away from Johannesburg and half an hour from Pretoria, it's nestled between the Bobbejaanberge and straddling the Boekenhoutspruit. Our visitors will see: Rhino, Gemsbok, Springbok, Red Hartebeest, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Kudu, Blesbok, Eland, Zebra, Giraffe, Duiker, Warthog, Hedgehog, Porcupine, Aardvark, Squirrels, Bush babies and many more. Predators are Brown Hyena, Leopard, Caracal, Civet and smaller cat families, e.g. Genet and African Wild cat.

And now in 2012: Come see our white Lions, cheetahs, leopards and more in our Predators Research Centre – opening shortly! Our own herd of buffalo will also arrive in Jun/July.

Accommodation:
Private bush camp: (Min of 6 and Max 14 persons) 4x comfortable, tastefully furnished, thatch bungalows with en suit facilities (showers and toilets). 2x Bungalows with 1x double bed and 2x single beds, 1x Bungalow with 2x single beds, 1x Bungalow with 4x single beds. Bedding is provided. Bring only own towels. The main living and social area is a spacious under cover lapa and boma, with leather couches and an African feel that lends itself to complete rest and relaxation. There is an extra thatched boma with braai facilities, all under cover for the chilly or windy nights. No electricity, only solar lighting in camp, and hot water and cooking facilities are all gas.

Old Trading Post: (2 - 6 persons max) The original building at the Old Trading Post is an old shop built in 1800's and was known as the "Voorslag Winkel". Restored and turned into two private self-catering quest suites. Each suite has a double bed and sleeper coach, open plan fully equipped kitchen, lounge, dining area and private stoop. (Ideal for 2 couples or small families). It's situated on top of a small valley with a view down to the Boekenhoutspruit, and breathtaking sunsets and excellent star gazing at night! A cozy boma with braai facilities outside. Swimming pool under construction.
Rates: R500.00 per unit per night minimum. R250 per adult and R150.00 per child u/12 per night.
Including: Day hikes with excellent Game Rangers. Catering available on request.
